The Graduate Certificate in TESL/TEFL consists of two prerequisites and 12 graduate credits. Courses are designed to provide basic preparation in teaching English to speakers of other languages in a variety of setting. Students may do a stand-alone certificate or apply to do a graduate certificate in addition to a masters or doctoral program. Students applying for the program can transfer in up to 9 credits taken at ISU as a graduate nondegree undeclared student (if grade of B or above) before admission to the certificate program. At 3 credits must be earned towards the certificate requirements after admission (the same semester or a later semester). This Certificate program doesn’t currently qualify for Federal Financial Aid. The following funding options are available:

ISU-wide: Academic Records, GPA, Statement of Purpose, Letters of Recommendation

Application Deadlines: Oct 15 for Spring entry, March 15 for Summer entry, July 15 for Fall entry.

1. All nonnative speaking applicants must provide an audio/video of spontaneous spoken English emailed to englgrad@iastate.edu.
