Krysten Craft will serve as the Graduate College’s student marshal at the fall 2023 graduate student commencement on Friday, Dec. 15 at Hilton Coliseum.

Craft is graduating from Iowa State with a doctorate in Animal Science. She will pursue a career as a nutritional immunologist in the animal health industry, creating diets that improve pet and livestock health.

Craft’s faculty escort for commencement is animal science associate professor Elizabeth Bobeck, who served as Craft’s major professor throughout her doctoral studies.

“She saw my potential, challenged me to think differently, and never let me talk myself out of some amazing opportunities,” Craft said. “Having her as a mentor changed my life for the better and I wanted to acknowledge her contributions to my professional development by having her as my faculty escort.

In her time at Iowa State, Craft has served as a mentor herself, helping undergraduate students in the Department of Animal Science along their own academic journeys. At the same time, she also collaborated with and learned from her fellow graduate students and her department’s faculty.

“Being selected as student marshal is an extraordinary honor and it is a testament to not only my own hard work, but to the support of friends, family, and Iowa State faculty,” she said. “It is also very humbling to have been selected for this honor from a group of accomplished students also receiving their degrees this December.
