Tailored for aspiring engineers and project managers, our program blends advanced coursework with practical experience to tackle real-world challenges in diverse industries.
Advanced Manufacturing

Our program in Systems Engineering will lead you to a Master of Engineering degree. It is designed to enable engineers, regardless of undergraduate engineering discipline, to develop the analytical abilities needed to design, evaluate, and build complex systems involving many components and demanding specifications. The intent of this program is to extend the ability of engineers to work across disciplinary boundaries as needed. It also develops the management capabilities needed into today's working environment.

For full-time, on-campus international students, this can include a Curricular Practical Training (CPT) option that allows you to work at an internship in a US country for one summer and one semester in the academic year. A sample program of study plan that includes CPT (and OPT) is available on the Program Homepage.

The graduate program in Engineering Management integrates advanced engineering principles with business and management practices, preparing engineers for leadership roles in technology-driven industries. This program emphasizes strategic planning, project management, organizational behavior, and innovation management within engineering contexts.
Engineering management

The Engineering Management Program focuses on developing an individual’s engineering, science and management skills so they can succeed in a technology driven environment. There is a growing need for engineers that can build multi-disciplinary design teams, then lead those teams to solve technical and business challenges. The Iowa State University Master of Engineering in Engineering Management Program is designed to train leaders who can meet both the technical and managerial challenges in developing modern complex engineered systems. The program can be completed on line or in residence, part-time or full-time. ISU’s Engineering Management graduate degree is often the best option for BS degreed engineers looking to get an MBA. While 5 of the ten courses in our program are selected from the MBA program at ISU’s world renowned business college, the remaining 5 courses in our coursework only masters degree are chosen from our Systems Engineering program. These are courses that cover topics in IT systems, Project Management, System Requirements, Operations, and Architecture definition, Quality and Ergonomics. These are courses more effectively targeted to the skills and background of engineers working within highly technical fields.
