Testing Dates

TAs at ISU

In Spring and fall sememsters, there are generally around 700 grad students on TA appointments.

Registration and Test Dates

Pre-Registration

Send us an email telling us your full name, academic department, the department or program you will teach for, your ISU email address, and preferred test date. We need this information at least 4 weeks before your test date.  Academic departments need to make their teaching schedule as early as possible to be ready for the semester.  They need your test results to do this, so please don’t procrastinate and put off taking your Speak/Teach test.

Registration

Visit our office in Pearson 1137 at one of the registration times below, more than a week before your preferred test date. Bring your schedule with you so you remember the times you will be free later in the week. At this visit you get a specific time to take your test and more details about the test procedure; you also fill out a form about yourself (or you can print it from the web and bring it with you). If you have taken Ibt-TOEFL or IELTS, bring your official score reports to registration.

Test dates

Your test appointment will be for approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes. The test itself takes 25 minutes. When you come to your appointment, first you select a basic undergraduate topic related to your academic field. Then you will have about an hour by yourself in a quiet room, studying the textbook material we provide and preparing the 5-minute presentation in which you teach some of the topic material. For more details see Overview of the SPEAK/TEACH test.
