European Studies Cluster
The European Studies cluster encompasses all areas of the history, literature, art, thought, politics, and culture of Europe from the classical era to the present. A concentration in European Studies will help students prepare for further graduate study in any of these areas, or for careers in international relations, business, or government.
Qualifications
Any student with a bachelor’s degree would qualify for a concentration in European Studies. The cluster is best suited for students who have had some background in one or more areas of European Studies, such as an undergraduate major or minor in one of the subject areas. Ideally, students should also possess demonstrated competence in at least one European language other than English.
Program of Study in the European Studies Cluster
Ideally, students select a minimum of 9 credits in each of three disciplines chosen from Architecture, Art History, English, French, German, Greek, History, Italian, Latin, Music, Philosophy, Portuguese, Political Science, Religious Studies, Russian, and Spanish, as well as 5 credits in thesis writing.
Possible Configurations
Students who choose the European Studies cluster could narrow their choice by selecting a specific chronological period, such as the ancient and classical era, the medieval and early-modern period, or modern Europe.
