The Graduate Council

Campanile
"Campanile" by Nick Vanberkum

The Graduate Council serves as the executive committee of the graduate faculty. Issues associated with graduate education are often distinctly different from those that surround undergraduate education. In particular, graduate education usually involves a much closer mentoring relationship with faculty than is experienced by most undergraduates and almost always involves a substantial original research component. Because graduate students are often more experienced, expectations and associated rules and regulations that shape the graduate education experience are frequently different from those for undergraduate education. To provide faculty and student input to policy decisions, the Graduate Council represents the Graduate Faculty, serves in an advisory capacity to the Dean of the Graduate College, approves new graduate programs, and establishes educational policies that govern graduate education throughout the College. The Council is elected and meets at least monthly during the academic year.
