Excellence and Diversity Go Hand in Hand at Iowa State University
A Message from Assistant Dean, Craig Ogilvie
The excellence we experience in our classrooms and labs is, in large part, tied to Iowa State’s commitment to diversity. A wide range of perspectives spurs creativity, and creativity is essential to strong scholarship and research.
As a faculty member, I know a diverse atmosphere makes my lab intellectually vibrant and scholastically fruitful. Our goal is to have diversity at ISU extend to the entire central Iowa area, an area where the environment is refreshing and intellectually charged. In central Iowa you will find communities that are every bit as welcoming as the Iowa State student population. At Iowa State, you will discover how vibrant and rewarding teaching and research can be. I encourage you to explore the possibilities.
As assistant dean, I work to increase diversity and graduate support for students, to ensure that access to graduate study is possible. At ISU, you will find a wide range of services to help you achieve your goals. They include the Graduate Minority Assistantship Program, the Minority Graduate Mentoring Program, the Center for Excellence and Teaching (CELT), as well as the dedicated professionals within the Graduate College. The networks of opportunity are not limited to the campus, they can also be found in our surrounding communities, where many ISU graduate students contribute their time and talents to help others.
