The Iowa AGEP Program is currently accepting applications for the Iowa AGEP 2008 Summer Internship program and the Mathematical Sciences Alliance (MSA) Summer Internship program.
The Iowa AGEP and the MSA are programs funded jointly by the National Science Foundation, and the three Iowa Regents universities: Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Northern Iowa. The primary goal of the program is to significantly increase the number of PhD degrees awarded to underrepresented U.S. minority students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM fields).
To apply for the internship, we encourage you to view the AGEP Partners/Mentors page, and then fill out our online application.
The deadline to complete the application is March 1st.
The summer internship program provides undergraduates early exposure to research by matching them with faculty mentors in their area of interest. The experience also allows undergraduates to become familiar with the life of a graduate student at a university. Students are provided with weekly seminars and social, cultural, and educational activities. Students present their projects at the AGEP Summer Symposium during their final week of the program.
The program begins on June 9th and ends August 1. Students receive a stipend of $2,500, room and board on campus, and round-trip airfare to their university of choice (Iowa State, Iowa, or Northern Iowa).
To be eligible for the summer research program, you must meet the following requirements:
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
- Member of an ethnic minority group - African American, Latina/o, Native American, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Classified as a junior or non-graduating senior; sophomores who have completed two years will also be considered
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics
