Graduate Student Well-Being
Your general well-being is very important to the Graduate College and to the progress you make in your degree program. Below are listed some of the services and resources that you might wish to know about as you continue as a student at Iowa State. Many of these as well as additional services are listed in other places on the web site (particularly under the University Student Services web page).
Printed Resources:
- Graduate College Handbook (published by the Graduate College and includes policies and procedures for graduate study, 294-4531.) The handbook is also available on the web.
- The TA handbook gives information and advice about many aspects of teaching and lists available resources it includes many TA comments and suggestions - printed copies are available to teaching graduate students from their departments or the CELT program.
- Graduate Student Orientation Handbook (published by the Graduate and Professional Student Senate as an introduction to the Graduate College for new students.) The handbook is also available on the web.
- Student Information Handbook (published by Dean of Students Office, Student Services Bldg, 294-1020.) The handbook is available on the Dean of Students web site). Services and Programs of the Dean of Students Office include:
- Student Legal Services (B11 Memorial Union, 294-0978) free legal aid to registered students
Student Advocacy Services (210 Student Services Bldg, 294-1020) clarification of university policies and procedures.
- Margaret Sloss Womens Center (Sloss House, 294-4154) advocacy, sexual harassment assistor, resource materials.
- Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Student Services (210 Student Services Bldg, 294-1020) support, referral and training workshops.
- Disability Resources (210 Student Services Bldg, 294-1020) advocacy, technology services, counseling and support services
On- and Off-Campus Student Services:
- Center for Creative Justice (210 Lynn Avenue, 515 292-3820) neutral-trained mediator services.
- Student Counseling Services (3rd floor Student Services Bldg, 515 294-5056) individual, couple and group counseling, diversity programs, substance abuse programs, career exploration services, disability resources, and outreach services for stress management, depression and eating disorders.
- Center for Child Care Resources (1038 Pammel Court, 515-294-8833) listing of campus and community child care centers, referrals, cost factors.
- ISU Financial Counseling Clinic (1331 Palmer Bldg, 515 294-9533) financial planning services.
- Connections (facilitated by Assault Care Center Extending Shelter & Support, 515 232-5418 and 24-hour crisis line: 1-800-203-3488) support program for women, who are victims of abuse.
- Richmond Center (125 S. 3rd Street, suite 200, 515 232-5811 and 24 hr crisis line: 1-800-830-7009) family mental health services.
