Academic Profile - Mission Statement

The Graduate College at Iowa State University:

  • Oversees all post-baccalaureate programs of study offered by the University
  • Carries out policies set by the graduate faculty and the Board of Regents for graduate education at Iowa State University
  • Insures that graduate students are enrolled, processed, and graduated in a fair, impartial, and orderly manner
  • Creates an environment that stimulates a synergistic relationship between graduate education and scholarly research
  • Works with the academic colleges to increase quality of graduate education across the University
  • Provides campus-wide recruitment initiatives and materials
  • Provides assistance and advice to graduate programs concerning recruitment, admissions, program policies, and educational good practices
  • Has central responsibility for recruitment and retention of graduate students from under-represented groups
  • Oversees and participates in impartial mechanisms for addressing graduate student grievances
  • Serves as the administrative home for several interdepartmental graduate programs as well as postdoctoral research associates
  • Administers and promotes special initiatives that broadly impact graduate education at the University
